Story Stuff

In this AU, Hio has the ability to manipulate matter (though he spends most of the plot screwing around with ice). This is mostly so I have an excuse to make his magic golden sparkles. His personality is way more hesitant and anxious, and he has some deep-rooted insecurities about not being able to provide for his baby brother. 

Oliver's excitement about the coronation is about finding an older male friend (or, to be specific, a blatant surrogate for his absent elder brother). Most of his quest is just "I want a dude friend, but I also want him to tell me what to do so I can backsass and tell him how much I love him ironically". Because he is 13 years old.

Rin was created when Hio sassed Oliver about his snow rabbit by making a snow-girl, so Rin's thing is Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better, up to and including "surviving in the summer heat". Her hairpins are regular leaves, and her ribbon is leaves preserved in wax. 

Len is an intrepid trader who has a tool for anything, ever. The one with waxed leaves, a rope, and a knife that can extend four times into a harpoon. Why do you need a harpoon, Len?? Who on earth would need a knife-harpoon??????

Leon and Lola are mom and dad, seeing as they're canon dead as far as software goes. 

Gakupo is Hans, probably. He feels like an evil dick to me, and he sort of sounds like Hio.

Maybe Tonio is a servant charged with taking care of Oliver? He is clearly Too Old to be a surrogate brother, and Oliver is way too young to be as in charge of his life as Anna is.

The moral of this AU's story is less "true love comes in many forms" and more "your family is not the people you're related to, but the people you make relations with".
